2nd IECB Certification Examination

The Philippine Institute of Industrial Engineers (PIIE) through the Industrial Engineering Certification Board (IECB) administered the 2nd Industrial Engineering Certification Examination last November 21, 2010 at the Procter and Gamble Auditorium, College of Engineering, University of the Philippines, Diliman, Q. C. The historic examination is participated by new graduates of B.S. in Industrial Engineering and those with less than 10 years of relevant experience. Eighty six took the second nationwide CIE examination and 40 of them successfully passed. This figure represents a 46% national passing rate. The first place is clinched by Ms. Geraldine del Rosario of University of the Philippines – Diliman with a grade of 79.05%; Ms. Julie Ann Gabiana of University of San Carlos (Cebu) and Mr. Julius Lauren Marasigan of Southern Luzon State University tied at second place with a grade of 78.10 % and at third place is Mr. Mark Roger Yurag of Mapua Institute of Technology with a grade of 77.86%. Mr. Mark Jun Porquiso of St. Louis College – San Fernando, La Union is at fourth with 77.62% followed by Mr. Kim Guillermo of University of Santo Tomas with 76.43% at fifth place. Tied at sixth place are Ms. Maria Sheryl Lyn Igot of University of San Carlos (Cebu) and Mr. Jose Benjamin Sendon of Adamson University with a grade of 75.95%. Seventh place is Ms. Nicole Bravo of University of Santo Tomas with 74.76%. Tied at eighth place are UST’s Mr. Christian Eduard Alcancia and Mr. Jasper Ian Galman with 74.52% followed by Ms. Madelyn Nagar of Southern Luzon State University with 74.29% at ninth place. Tied at tenth place are Ms. Maria Laurainne del Rosario of UST and Ms. Helen Kaye Layco of New Era University with 74.05%.

The CIE examination was the product of a series of dialogues and consultations among academe, industry practitioners and international counterparts. It is an important initial step to enhance and professionalize the practice of Industrial Engineering (IE) in the country. The program BSIE was first offered into the country by Adamson University in 1935 and since then it continues to evolve in a very dynamic curriculum producing graduates that are in demand in the service and manufacturing sectors. IE focuses on continuous improvement, productivity, systems and operational excellence and many of its graduates occupy key management positions in various companies both here and abroad.

Also, since 2008, the IECB has an ongoing certification program for Professional Industrial Engineers (PIE) among members of the PIIE who have significant Industrial Engineering experience and who have established respectable and exemplary track record of practice in the academe and/or in the industry for at least ten years. To date, IECB has more than 300 Professional Industrial Engineers (PIE) and 69 Certified Industrial engineers (CIE).
